I'm overjoyed by our results. Other people deserve a gold for how fast they politicise #TeamGB results?

Truly incredible night for Team GB. I was very blessed to have the once in a lifetime privalege of being in the Stadium this evening. The noise was incredible. I doubt I'm going to be able to talk at audible volume for weeks. What an evening! I'm honestly still buzzing!

Fabulous more Golds today, I have watched sports , I don't normally. The cycling , show jumping , sailing, really enjoyed watching them and the Gold medals won excellent.
What saddened me , was the news today, stating "we must build on these successes, schools need to concentrate more on sports".
Well hello , as I previously stated Michael Gove's first act in government was to CUT £165 MILLION A YEAR FROM FUNDS FOR SCHOOL SPORT.
The one thing repeated during these olympics, was the amount of competetors who had been to private schools, I dont know about that? does anyone else know? I know some of the sports equipment is very expensive.
Surely cutting money from school sport funding wont help produce future olympians. the kids have such good role models, Our olympians have been so gracious in winning, we should be proud of them all. Wake up Gove

You do realise Sally that we have John Major to thank for a lot of this success?

The National Lottery Sally. Lottery funding has done a lot for UK sport.

A regressive tax on dreams has indeed done a lot for elite sport. Changing tack, is it just me or is it the case that with our golds (Ennis, Farah, Rutherford, Murray, the cycling, show jumping and the rowing) we have won with ease. Whenever it's been a close call we've come second (Louis Smith, mens rowing pairs, mixed doubles tennis).

 I see, but I don't do the lottery ;) , I would rather school sport have funding back from Michael Gove, as well as charity.
I see 21 school playing fields ,have just been agreed to be sold by the government? I am aware labour sold some, two wrongs don't make a right though. seems sport champions of the future , will have to be well off . shame for us all.

Tut tut politics even creeping in here...ok well during 1981 to 1997 i.e. most of the last Tory government, 5000 playing fields were sold off.

Also good to see the Guardian giving James Murdoch credit for the success of GB cycling although this was written before the Olympics:

While is was nice that GB won gold in the Dancing Horses event although I was disappointed that none
could do any Dirty, Disco or Break Dancing I wondered why we don't have a Forklift Truck Dressage Event.

P.S Why don't the horses get a medal at well ?

We can say that this is our generation's 1966. Wonderful success and a great atmosphere.

It should be stated that the success started on the track and moved across. Of course the sponsorship helped and they have done it in the right way.

as long as they never take the TDF on PPV it will be successful. Nothing can match eurosport's coverage.

Chris Hoy what can we say 6th gold medal, excellent. really great olympics,
wonder what the closing ceremony will be like? ;)
Then paraolympics, wonder will Remploy workers be given any free tickets? :D

Much prefer ITV's live TDF commentary from PL/PS using the same LF as eurosport's DH/SK.

Haven't seen any of eurosport's VD coverage, but HP/CB will take some beating.

Shame the garden racing was scrubbed.

The idea of Atos sponsoring the Paralympics is rather distasteful.

 WHAT! seriously? "Atos"? the company given a £400 million pound contract to do assessments on whether people qualify for the incapacity living allowence benefit or what they will be called? (Sorry LiKW I know you explained that, but I cant scroll back now) So the people removing benefits are sponsoring the paralympics? it would be funny if it wasn't so crooked. "Atos" will get tax breaks in return for sponsoring, my life talk about rich!!!!!!!!!
Also heard yesterday that the paralympians who get a gold medal wont be on postage stamps, Royal Mails reason? there will be too many gold medalists and it wont be possible to put them on stamps , so Royal Mail will do about 6 group stamps.
Twitter went mad last night , most people said "not good enough, as London2012 already had 22 gold medalist" -----it is estimated 42 gold medals will be won in the paralympics  Royal Mail apparently get good revenue on these types of stamps? (commemorative) hope thats the right word me minds gone blank :?

I suppose if you adhere to the school of thought that there is a difference between acronym and initialism that would be the case. I had thought that we had become flexible in our interpretation of what acronym meant since the late sixties and most people accept that initials do constitute acronyms these days.

Anyway, that was a lot of acronyms in three lines.

Well its all over...and to use a well known catchphrase didn't we do well!!

Just for fun I wonder how the medals table based on medals per capita or GDP would look...yes China would be well down as would the USA but would we go top??? Anyone want to do the number crunching... :)

We wouldn't come third if we did a per capita basis.
