... to assist the growth of the money trees in the pension-orchard. If we don't get it very soon, all those people who want to retire at 60 and live until they're 90, on a final salary pension, will find themselves in difficulties. Compost particularly welcomed from those who don't get any fruit from this orchard, i.e. all those in the private sector, especially those manual workers who will have to work until they're 68 anyway and, regrettably, can't expect to see 90. Remember: we're not all in this together folks!

I dunno about compost but standby for a regular poster on here who's tactic is to somehow "qualify" his stance on issues such as this by posting totally irrelevant quotations, as in a load of pointless shit ...

I hear that cash paper and metal coin don't make very good mulch, else I'd suggest going round the banks for their notes.
As for other sorts of fertiliser, I gather there's lots of seaweed offshore, and if a small portion of that could be rounded up, we could keep the whole orchard in vigorous condition.

Yeah, that's right. Tax the banks more. That will help to solve their liquidity crisis and ensure that they lend more to small businesses. And close the tax loopholes. Because that's so easy and yet has never been tried before. Any panacea in fact, rather than face up to the basic, unescapable facts: the country's broke; we can't afford lavish public sector final-salary pensions with retirement at 60, when people will live until they're nearly 90; and those of us paying for this largesse whilst putting far, far higher proportions of our own income into pension schemes that are far, far less generous are fed up to the back teeth about the unfairness.

And those of us who are underemployed, unemployed, pensionless and hopeless are looking forward to your company. Pensions aren't going to make this country go broke, not while there are nuclear submarines that can be scrapped, energy conservation measure to put in place, and disused shops and houses waiting to be occupied.
