Well we have made a pretty lame start, considering the cycling talent we had on the first day....China an astonishing 5 gold medals on day one!

I think for us to finish 3rd (the target) is just a tad optimistic.

But how many medals had we won half way through the second day in Beijing? I genuinely don't know.

We have a horrible habit of putting extreme national pressure on people which I can't help feeling it is more of a hindrance.

Well hopefully the discussions will continue on here...the Beeb are becoming the worst at what you write

Am quite astonished that something like dressage is an Olympic sport.

I'm half hoping its a giant fail by British athletes just to annoy the BBC. This is meant to be the peak of human sporting achievement on the globe, not some parochial celebration of the UK participants. It was the thing that annoyed me the most about the opening ceremony was the cutting to the pictures of "Team GB" outside the stadium rather than concentrating on those little nations from Africa who clearly didn't matter.

I hope its an unmitigated disaster for Team GB "medelling" as the BBC presenters insist on calling it. They might have to concentrate on the actual sport...

Jeez, so far the only level that has failed was the mens cycling because of tactics more than anything. Our strongest areas of track cycling, sailing and rowing have barely started.

and a great medal. It was better than the mens because team orders were not so apparent. what Lizzie did by going in a breakaway should have been done by the men

I think it's really bad, to hope the British team fail, due to not liking the name team gb, or the way the bbc presents the programme. :|
Win or lose people have trained hard in the hope of representing Britain in these olympics, the dedication to the sport they compete in , and the fact that the atheletes do their upmost to win a medal for themselves as much as Britain , is all that can be asked or expected from them. I wish all the athletes well , it would be great to see a country who have never won a medal , win one this time . Britain will be the team I shout for , but I will happily applaude the olympian winners. :D

The empty seats just smack of poor organisation, though it all makes sense once you realise that, yet again, Jeremy Hunt's involved.

The Germans are doing worse than us, but the French are doing better. :|

I enjoyed the Judo yesterday and in particular the Italian lass who won her bronze medal play-off - she revealed written on the back of her T-shirt a handwritten message "Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go to.... LONDON". Her employer in Italy? The police force...

The women's beach volleyball was nailbiting stuff, it would have been better without the 'Benny Hill' theme being played and atrocious commentary though.

I think the Beeb is already starting to get desperate..what with comments coming from the likes of Clare Balding saying, we have a 'A legacy of attitude' after our swimmer was upbeat after finishing 5th in a swim final...

drat nearly a silver in gymnastics, what a shame for the team to get silver . then the japanese complain . They then get silver we get bronze, still we got a medal , after how mant years ...82? is that right.
then the synchronised diving , nearly at least a silver till that 4th dive , now zero medals , shame.

I'm getting a little tired of hearing mainly our swimmers failing and banging on about how great the crowd has been..... ;)

They are already targetting down our medals tally...70 down to 60 according the the Guardian, why stop there... :)

Gemma Gibbons silver in the Judo very welcome for future funding for the sport. Cameron got to watch a Greenwich girl complete in the final only to see Putin see his boy win gold.

Why not? Seems to me that we still have plenty of gold medal prospects left.

Andy Murray has a guaranteed silver after beating Djokovic in straight sets.

Will Federer's marathon semi final disadvantage him?

Has a day off now as the final is played on Sunday. Murray has at least one game of mixed doubles tomorrow so could play 4 sets of tennis (mixed doubles play two sets then if its 1-1 they play a Championship tie-break which is first to ten).

With Jessica Ennis, more golds on the water and plenty more chances in the velodrome and I don't see any of the teams below us catching up.
