On Tuesday 7th August, at 2.30 pm, there is a public meeting @ The Mu'ath Centre, Bordesley, with four speakers on the issues around communities, policing and counter-terrorism.
There are four speakers: Cllr Waseem Zaffar (Labour, Lozells), Dr. Laura McDonald (University of B'ham), a lady from the British-Pakistani Forum (London-based) and Rizwaan Sabir, a researcher.
Two issues underpin the meeting, first the number of recent arrests in B'ham, relating to allegations of terrorism, alongside what the community can do itself. Secondly, the controversy around Rizwaan Sabir's arrest in 2008 @ Nottingham University, with the recent revelations that evidence collected by WMP / WMCTU was false - as reported in:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/jul/14/police-evidence-muslim-student-rizwaan-sabirAnecdote suggests that there is widespread concern in the local Muslim community over how WMP perform their duties regarding the prevention and investigation of terrorism.
